Hollon Safes Republic and Reserve Fireproof Gun Safes Go Biometric

Hollon Safes now have a range of biometric gun safes. No, they have not introduced a new range but rather have introduced a biometric E-lock upgrade option for their Republican and Reserve ranges of gun safes. This has been a very clever move by the people at Hollon Safes. By combining the design and constructions features of their proven high quality fireproof gun safes with the ever-increasing popularity of fingerprint biometric locks, Hollon have brought to the market two ranges of fireproof biometric gun safes that represent great value for buyers.

The Securam BSL-0608 Biometric Lock creates new safe options
All the construction features that make the Republic and Reserve fireproof gun safes more secure than other gun safes on the market; the thickness of the steel, drill/ballistic armored hard plate to protect the lock, active spring loader re-lockers, locking bolts covering all 4 sides of the door, one hour fire protection and more; have been married with a Securam BSL-0608 biometric lock.

Hollon Safe were thoroughly impressed by the Securam lock when their warehouse, tech support team and the owner, a locksmith took one apart. After testing the lock and taking it apart, it was decided at a company meeting to introduce the lock as an optional upgrade for a number of products. Now, with the use of the UL Listed BSL-0608 biometric lock, Hollon Safes has a range of biometric safes that includes fireproof biometric gun safes.

Securam a leading manufacturer of Biometric Locks
Securam have over 21 years of security industry expertise and is a leading manufacturer of electronic security products. Biometric security is one of their specialties and have developed top level fingerprint biometrics that offers superior protection and safekeeping for valuables.
The BSL-0608 biometric lock is a UL Listed, motor driven, swing bolt lock that has proved its durability when tested. Mike, the Hollon Safes warehouse manager, even took his dirty nasty warehouse finger to it and it still read his fingerprint. The lock holds up to 10 fingerprints plus one 10 digit code and unlike most biometric locks out today this one runs on just one 9-volt battery instead of two and still has a battery life span of 2000-3000 operations.
Republic Gun Safe with PDO

Often owners of gun safes also use the safe as handgun safes and the Republican Series of fireproof safes provides owners with a pocket door organizer (PDO) to hold handguns and ammunition. One big positive of having biometric gun safes is that in an emergency access to the safe is via the simple scanning of a fingerprint. Hollon fireproof safes incorporating the BSL-0608 lock has two simple and easy ways of unlocking; by a finger swipe using the fingerprint sensor or if needed by a code.

Many potential gun safe owners ask, “What are the best gun safes?” It can be said without reservation that the Republic and Reserve series of fireproof gun safes provide buyers with exceptionally well designed and constructed safes with a range of sizes and prices that provide excellent value for money.

Wild Hog Hunting
One of the fastest growing hunting sports in the United States is wild hog hunting. In most states wild boar and feral hogs are considered pests and can be hunted year round: even at night in some states. Wild hog hunting; wild boar hunting; does require hunting credentials in all states and the laws pertaining to wild boar hunting vary depending upon whether the state classifies wild hogs as a pest or game. States where wild hogs are considered a pest apply less stringent hunting laws but a hunting license is still required. In some states such as California wild boar hunting season coincides with the deer season and allows deer hunters who have purchased deer tags to legally hunt wild boars.

What gun and ammo do I use for hunting wild hogs?
There is no simple answer and is a question that has been talked about over hunting campfires by generations of hunters. When you go hunting wild hogs, you are hunting a very intelligent animal that have few natural predators and are big and strong. The number one rule is choose a gun best suited to the hunting conditions that ensures a clean kill to minimize the animal’s suffering. An accurately placed shot using a .22 short will kill a hog but be careful if the hog is wounded; a wounded hog is dangerous. For new hunters hunting wild boars the consensus is to use nothing smaller than a 30 caliber.  If restricted by regulations to using a shotgun, a 12 gauge using rifled slugs will produce the best results. When selecting ammo keep in mind that heavier bullets pack a bigger wallop, deliver more energy on target and penetrate brush more effectively than lighter ammo.

Smaller calibers are used for wild hog hunting and are favored by some wild hog hunters for their lightweight and large ammo capacity. While twigs more easily deflect smaller bullets, semi-automatic weapons using smaller calibers are handy when large groups of hogs are encountered.
Keep weapons secured

Accidental shootings involving children, the increasing number of reported burglaries and the ever present danger of fire provide the keystone reasons for US households installing fireproof gun safes.
Surveys reveal 40% of US homes with children have guns and that 50% of homes with guns do not secure firearms in gun safes. For the home there are multiple types of safes suitable for use as a gun safe. There are gun safes specifically made for long guns and pistols with biometric safes proving popular. Fireproof home safes come in many sizes and are perfect for use as a gun safe. Wall safes and floor safes can be used as pistol gun safes and provide the added security of stealth when securing pistols from inquisitive children.

Gun safes, preferably fireproof gun safes are the most secure way of protecting children from accidental firing fatalities; protecting valuable weapons in the event of a fire and for securing guns from the attention of burglars.

Gun Safety – Secure Guns in a Gun Safe

This year across the country background checks on people purchasing concealed firearms is up an average of ten percent. Carrying a concealed weapon in public is legal in forty-nine of the fifty US states, as long as you have a permit; there is also a requirement that firearms are secured when not being carried. Reports are also showing large amounts of ammunition are also being sold. These sales of guns and ammo are in line with spikes in requests for secluded pistol licenses whenever there is a gun related tragedy.

AX11678 Compact Gun Safe
Guns left in a car must be locked, concealed from view and preferably secured in a gun safe. The AX11812 Compact Key Lock Safe is an ideal size gun safe for the car or when travelling.  When being used in motor vehicles as a gun safe the AX11812 can be mounted using the included steel mounting sleeve and mounting hardware. For gun owners looking for a combination lock gun safe the AX11678 Combination Compact Gun Safe features solid steel construction and comes with a long self-locking security cable to keep the gun safe secured to a large fixed object inside the vehicle.

AX116522 Biometric Gun Safe
For the home and office, there are multiple types of safes suitable for use as a gun safe. There are gun safes specifically made for long guns and pistols that includes safes featuring biometric, combination, key and electronic keypads. Fireproof home safes come in many sizes and are perfect for use as a gun safe and there is a safe for all budgets. Wall safes and floorsafes are also used as gun safes and provide the added security of stealth when securing guns from inquisitive children.
If yours is one of the 40% of US homes with guns and one of the 50% that doesn’t have a gun safe now is the time to purchase a gun safe and give children, visitors and family the security they deserve.

Gun Security - There are over 1,500 accidental firing fatalities a year in the United States. What is alarming is that guns are the second highest cause of non-natural deaths for children in the United States. Surveys reveal 40% of US homes with children have guns and that 50% of homes with guns do not store the firearms safely.
The American Academy of Paediatricians (AAP) recommends:
  • The gun should be locked up
  • The gun should not be loaded
  • Ammunition should never be stored with the gun
  • Ammunition should be locked away separately to the guns
  • Safe keys or combinations should not be available to children
To secure guns the best protection is a fireproof gun safe. A good gun safe offers both fire protection and in the event of fire water protection from the gallons of water used to extinguish the blaze.

Hollon RSV-5922C – The Sixteen Rifle Reserve Series Fireproof Gun Safe.

The Hollon Reserve series of fireproof gun safes are a great alternative to the more expensive Republic Series of gun safes. The RSV-5922C like the PDO RG-16C has a long gun capacity of 16 rifles inside the safe but comes without a pocket door organizer. The quoted gun capacity of 16 rifles will vary and is dependent upon the size of the rifles and accessories.

The safe is Torch Resistant Fire Rated for one-hour fireproof protection at 1250 degrees Fahrenheit. In the event of a fire the safe door has, a heat activated intumescent door seal designed to seal out smoke and water.

The steel used in the body of the gun safe is ten (10) gauge seamless as is the door. Ten-gauge solid steel plate added to the entire door plus drill/ballistic armored hard plate to protect the lock provides excellent steel protection in the event of an attempted forced entry.

Like the PRO RG-16 gun safe the RSV-5922C has seven (7) active steel locking bolts, three (3) fixed locking bolts on the hinged side and an active spring-loaded re-locker to prevent punch attacks. Recommendations For Purchasing A Biometric Gun Safe

Investing in a gun safe is the most effective way for securing handguns at home or in the office and is a security measure many take to safeguard families and valuables. Biometric gun safes are becoming the preferred option for many gun owners due to users being able to gain quick access using the fingerprint technology. The following recommendations will help
Biometric Wall Safe
  • Decide what you are going to secure in your biometric gun safe. The size safe purchased will be dependent upon how many guns and other valuables are to be secured. Biometric safes range in size from the typical home safe to smaller safes that can be hidden in a drawer, mounted to a bench or secured in a vehicle.
  • Know how the biometric gun safe is to be installed. Biometric wall safes may require installation by a professional while a drawer safe can be easily fitted into a bedside cabinet.
  • When purchasing a safe ensure the biometrics are reliable and you will not have to worry when opening the safe in an emergency.
  • Always look for brands from top manufacturers who offer at least a one-year warranty on their safes. Protex and Baska are two popular biometric gun manufacturers that provide biometric gun safes that are reliable and easy to use.
  • Before choosing a biometric gun safe check the safes design and construction for the level of security offered. Importantly, look for pistol safes that can stand against overrides, have a solid steel safe door and body to withstand attempted security breaches.
  • Make sure the safe allows storage information for multiple users. Provision for multiple users allows opening of the biometric gun safe by responsible family members or other trusted individuals should you be absent in an emergency.
  • Biometric Drawer Safe.
Ensure the safe is easy to use.  Look for biometric safes with fingerprint scanners that are both easy to access and easy to use by all registered users whatever the situation.
When researching biometric gun safes look for top brands having reliable fingerprint readers and know what size safe you require to enable decisions on what installation is required. As with any safe purchase, there are design considerations that need to be considered when purchasing a biometrics gun safe. What level of security is offered, what and how many users can be stored and how easy is the safe to operate?

Hollon Republic Series Fireproof Gun Safe Cabinets – How Do They Shape Up.

Experts in this field of gun safe cabinets, locksmiths and vendors alike, agree that there are a number of recommended guidelines for purchasers to follow when buying a gun safe cabinet. These recommendations are well documented on the internet and this article is not going to re-hash the reasons for following the recommendations. Rather, the purpose of this article is to summarize the guidelines and then compare the recommendations with the specifications for the Hollon Gun Safe Cabinet Republic Series.

What to look for when buying a gun safe cabinet:
  • How many rifles do you want to secure now and consider what future requirements you may have.
  • Safe doors with plate steel ¼" to ½" thick
  • Safe bodies constructed of 10 gauge steel or thicker
  • Constructed using continuous welds not stitch welds.
  • Dial, digital or biometric lock
  • PRO RG39 Gun Safe with Pocket Door
    Organizer and Opening 180 Degrees
A minimum of two locking bolts on each of the safes four sides
  • Hardened steel locking bolts 1" to 1½" in diameter.
  • A relocker of some form is essential.
  • Preferably external hinges
  • Pre-drilled anchor holes for anchoring the safe in position.
  • Preferable the gun safe cabinet should be fireproof.
  • A fireproof gun cabinet should have an expandable door seal.
How does the PRO Republic Series compare:
Coming in four sizes, holding from sixteen (16) to forty-five (45) rifles, and having security for pistols using the pocket door organizer the PRO Republic gun safe cabinet series has the range of safes to suit your requirements now and into the future.
5' Doors with 1 1/2" Locking Bolts
Having doors 5" thick with ¼" (3 gauge) solid steel plate added to the entire door for pry bar resistance and drill/ballistic armored hard plate to protect the lock the Republic series gun cabinet doors are well constructed to resist burglary attempts.

The body of the RG45 gun safe cabinet is constructed of 1/8" seamless steel
Unlike the body construction of RG16, RG22 and RG39 gun safe cabinets, which are constructed of nine (9) gauge (5/32") seamless steel the steel used in the RG45 gun safe is one eighth inch 1/8” seamless.
Debate is strong in the industry over what is the best lock for a gun safe with a number of people considering combination locks more durable and trouble free than digital locks and biometric locks even though they are slower to open. Combination locks come standard with the PRO gun cabinet.
Importantly all the Republic Series Gun Safe come with locking bolts on the hinge side. This is especially important due to the safes having external hinges. With the exception of the PDO-RG45 gun safe cabinet, which has eleven (11) active steel locking bolts plus five (5) fixed locking bolts on the hinged side, the other gun safes in the PRO series have seven (7) active steel locking bolts and three (3) on the hinged side. All the locking bolts are 1 to 1 1/2" diameter chrome plated solid steel.
An active spring loaded re-locker to prevent punch attacks comes standard with each gun cabinet in the series.
To allow the safe door to open a full 180 degree door opening the Republic series safes are constructed with external hinges.
While the gun safes may be quite heavy a determined burglar will still find a way of moving a safe so each gun safe cabinet comes with pre-drilled anchor holes.
Three layers of fireboard in the door and two layers in the body provide Torch Resistant Fire Rated protection of one hour at 1250 degrees F. To protect the safes interior, and the valuables it contains from smoke and water, the PRO series of safes have a heat activated expandable intumescent door seal.
The PRO Republic Series gun safes not only meet the recommendations but in many instances exceeds the recommendations living up to the Hollon Safes core value of ‘constructing safes to the top of industry standards and then a little higher to ours’.
